Letter to Margaret of Austria, 1561 Sept. 12.

The letter to the Duchess of Parma announces the belated delivery of the painting of "Giuditta" (Judith). The artist complains that poor health and other "sinistri" had prevented him from finishing this work, to which he would have liked to add even more "spirito di vita e di verita.̀" Nevertheless, it has been highly commended by its viewers, and Clovio hopes that it will please the Duchess, asking for her continued patronage. The letter is addressed on back: Alla Serenissima Madama d'Austria / Govern[atri]ce di Fiandra / mia S[igno]ra osser[vandissi]ma.
